Location:  Placement opportunities based in Operations Services Science at Wissington Sugar Factory but including travel to other factory sites throughout East Anglia and the East Midlands.

Salary: £20,000

Sugar manufacture involves an extensive range of complex processes and equipment. In the UK, the beet processing factories are a cross between a power plant, an agricultural processor, a chemical plant and a food factory. 

As a science placement student within British Sugar, you will gain experience in what the business entails and use the knowledge that you have gained at University. Under the mentorship of senior scientists, you will be exposed to a stimulating and varied environment. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills to enable a successful scientific career in industry, present ideas to managers and influence important business decisions.

We are looking for enthusiastic people who are keen to learn and who will provide a valuable contribution within our business. The placement year is also an opportunity for you and the business to learn from each other. You will be responsible for your work areas (including specialist instrumental analysis, method development and process analysis) from early on in your placement. This experience is certain to help with your future career.

Please note that because of the nature of the work, it is essential that applicants for the position hold a full UK driving licence.
