Year in Industry – 12 month Engineering Placements
What are you looking to get from your Year in Industry? We offer you great exposure to a wide variety of operations from the start! During your year with us, you will be involved in a diverse range of activities that naturally reflect the sheer degree of diversity across engineering.
You'll have every opportunity to use your engineering knowledge to solve manufacturing problems. You could find yourself fixing and maintaining our state-of-the-art equipment. And far from being an invisible member of the team, you'll be presenting your ideas to managers and influencing important business decisions.
We see engineering placements as a two-way interaction. You'll get as much from the year as you're prepared to put in. And if you're enthusiastic and keen to learn, the experience will stand you in very good stead for your future career.
See what some of our past placement students have said:
“British Sugar and the people within the company focused on my personal development during my placement year and helped me to improve myself. The experience has developed both my technical skills and personal skills with the variety of work that I have been involved in and being with British Sugar means that you are not just stuck in an office environment.
A great aspect of my time with the company was the freedom I had to develop areas I found interesting. Having enjoyed thermodynamics at university, I was able to take on a major project to increase the efficiency of the coal fired boiler.”
Phil Ebner, Placement Student – Cantley Factory 08-09
“At British Sugar, you get responsibility very early on, which makes the job seem worthwhile and gives a really enjoyable challenge. Within a few days in the company, I was already working on my own project, installing waste-heat-recovery for the office heating system. I was on a steep learning curve, designing the system, contacting contractors, writing risk assessments and keeping track of quotations and capital, but I was always supported by those around me to ensure everything was kept on track”.
Matt Bark, Placement Student – Cantley Factory 07-08
