Agriculture
In total, our company purchases (or grows) over 30 million tonnes of feed stocks from farms and plantations in the UK, Poland, Spain and Africa. The diversity of our agricultural operation is huge. All of our businesses depend on cost effective, quality crops to keep their large-scale manufacturing operations running efficiently. The sugar cane and sugar beet that’s delivered is not only converted into one of our many sugar products, but can also find itself transformed into bio-fuels for inclusion into unleaded petrol, drinking quality alcohol, fine chemicals or renewable electricity, as well as a diverse range of co-products. Getting agricultural operations right is key to our financial success.

You will undertake a range of placements in both in Europe and internationally. The scheme offers real management team exposure from day one and you can expect to play a high-profile role in our business sooner rather than later. Within widely different cultures, you can expect to be involved in:

  • Transferring agronomic and operational best practice
  • Working with strategic business partners to implement new technology
  • Agricultural economics
  • The full crop lifecycle from field to factory.

Requirements

To be eligible for the Agriculture scheme, you need:

  • Total flexibility regarding international mobility and location.
  • A 2:1 honours degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Business Managerment or Biological Sciences.
  • Practical Agricultural experience would be beneficial.
  • The right to work in the UK for the duration of the scheme, http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/
  • Ideally, fluency in European languages or Mandarin.

Training and Development

The programme offers a broad range of experiences within very different environments across the British Sugar Group. Placements can range from practical, hands-on work associated with the lifecycle of the crop, to working on projects that will have a strategic impact. Whatever you’re doing, you’ll have our formal and informal support network – including mentors and buddies. Mentors are senior people who will provide you with an invaluable insight into the business. Buddies are normally ex-graduates who have completed the scheme.
